I just finished reading the summer newsletter.  The CLA does lots of good things for the lake, so I'm conflicted when I see things like the endorsement of the Michigan Waterfront Alliance.  As recommended, I did go to the MWA website to check them out.  While they also do some good things for water quality and protection, this organization is also an advocate for lakefront owners at the expense of backlot owners.  They, along with the closely aligned Michigan Lakes and Streams organization, were strong advocates and lobbyists for the grossly restrictive road-ends usage legislation that was enacted last year.  They are also strong advocates for further restrictions on road-end usage to limit or ban even daytime usage.

So, while I like many things the our organization, the CLA, does, I have a very difficult time reconciling the fact that the CLA continues to complicitly support waterfront owners at the expense of backlot owners.  I pay membership fees to CLA for four properties, two of which have deeded lakefront and two of which are backlot properties.  Every year I ask myself why I am paying membership fees for the backlot properties to an organization that I don't feel advocates very well for those properties when it endorses other organizations whose goals include eliminating long-held and accepted lake usage rights of backlot owners.

A quick perusal of the cottage directory would lead me to believe that about 1/2 of CLA members are backlot owners...I just don't get it.

Well I did buy another pontoon boat. I sure wish someone could help me find a place to dock it . Its on a trailer and it sure is a pain to pull it in and out of the water every time I want to use it. Seems like someone on this forum knows someone who could use some extra cash for the privilege to dock it.  My e-mail address is craighauser@comcast.net if they would rather do that then call me. Any leads would be appreciated !!

Thanks

Since people are now coming back for the new season, I'm once again asking if anyone has our raft that (I hope) floated away last fall.  Its about 4 inch thick hard foam, blue, about 5' x 6', with an anchor bolt in the middle.  If you have it or know where it is, please respond here or call Scott or Libbie at 989-235-3722.

It's been 3 years since I asked for help on this issue. I sold my pontoon boat 2 years ago because I had to pay a LOT of money to dock it for the season and rarely used it . I purchased a boat on a trailer to replace the pontoon boat. After a year and a half  ; I have since sold the boat because I realized it was too much hassle to try and put the boat in and out of the water every day that I wanted to use it. I realized I'm not a spring chicken anymore and it became too much of a burden to try and launch and land it by myself. I may be interested in purchasing another pontoon if I could find someplace to dock it for a reasonable fee for the summer. I'm not asking for a freebie and I would pay for the privilege. I DO own property off the lake and I do pay taxes unlike people that just come in and drop their boat in the lake and then leave and not contribute to the township upkeep. My number is 517-285-6660 if you have any suggestions. Thanks for viewing this post and I hope someone can help me.

We need everyone's assistance in helping to watch for invasive plant species in the lake! Go to the following link and print out the identification chart:

http://www.mymlsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Publication4.png

It is important to catch them in the beginning stages before they really take hold in the lake. Contact CLA immediately. Suggest you keep a copy in your boat, pontoon, etc.

Attended the Michigan Lakes & Streams Assoc annual conference this weekend in Bay City. Riparian definitions, rights, etc. received from Cliff Bloom, Working with your Township to Protect Your Lake (MTA Legal Representative) and spent a large portion of the conference on water quality monitoring and invasive plant species. The plan is to really work this summer on invasive plant species to detect and manage before we have major problems! Most are carried in by boat, and can reproduce by just small fragments. So, if a boat has been in the water of another lake within 5 days of coming to Crystal, all I can say is danger, danger!! Clean the boat, motor, and trailor of any plant debris and empty bilge water before launching! Tell your friends and family!!
